Canary

Canary The Canary is a domesticated form of a wild songbird in the finch family. Originating from Madeiria, Azores and the Canary Island, these birds were brought to Europe by sailors and soon became a popular family pet.

Canaries were once used in coal mining as an early warning for the build up of toxic gasses although this practice ended in the UK by the mid 1980's.
