Horse

Horse There are over 300 breeds of horse that can be divided into loose categories based on their general temperament. 'Hot bloods' have speed and endurance, 'Cold bloods' such as draft horses and ponies and 'Warm bloods' which are mainly used for riding.

Horses are grazing animals with their major source of nutrients being foraged from hay or pasture. They can also consume approximately 2.5% of their body weight in dry feed each day. A 450kg (990lb) adult horse could eat up to 11 kilograms of food. When grain is fed, nutritionists recommend that 50% of the diet should still be forage. Horses also require a plentyful supply of clean water.
